Troop A medic, Private First Class Edward J. Valentine, was from Cuyahoga, Ohio.
His son, Val, researched much of PFC Valentine's war service and wrote a memoir detailing his own time cycling the historic routes taken by the 24th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron through Europe.
The photograph of PFC Valentine with his platoon shows him in the second row (the first seated row), third from left.
These photographs are taken from Val Valentine's tribute memoir 'Through His (my) Eyes' (available here).
Edward spoke little of the war or the souvenirs that he brought back. Val believes that his father was traumatised by his experiences in combat. The interview with Val, below, was recorded on Apri 18 2024.
Edward John Valentine was born January 1 1915. He passed away June 9 1974, aged 59.
